In the high school of Malaysia, students are given a choice to choose to be in art stream or science stream. Anyone could attend the art stream but not the science stream. There are some requirements that you have to achieve in order to go into the science stream. Before I attended into high school, I was always told that students in art stream have poor grades and they are not interested in studying at all. So when I finished my secondary school, I wanted to go to science stream instead of art stream as I know I am not interested in art subjects and I didn’t want to be humiliated by other people. Many people will think you are stupid if you go to art stream. This is because only students who have good grades would be accepted in science stream while the students with poor grades have no choice but to go for art stream. I always had this perception in my mind that students in the art stream are poor in studies. They don’t concentrate in class and they are troublemakers and I don’t want to be a part of them.

     Being in the science stream was awesome as we had special privileges. Teachers always treated us better than the art stream students because we were not troublemakers and always had good grades. In school, science stream students were the upper class students while the art stream students were the lower class students.  Anyway, I met this girl named Shirley in my English tuition class. She is an art stream student. The first impression of me to her was she wasn’t a good student because she is from art stream. But surprisingly she was a really outstanding student in my English tuition class. She wrote great essay and spoke good English in class. I was pretty amazed of her perfect English work and then I realized that I was totally wrong on judging her as a weak student. She was a really hardworking student and she was a captain in the cheerleading team. So when time has gone by, we became good friends and I told her how I felt when I first met her. She told me that many people had bad impression on art stream students and it was so annoying and frustrating. She told me that not everybody in the art stream behave the same way. Those troublemakers didn’t mean to create problems but sometimes the environment leaded them to do so. For example, the teachers treat so differently to two groups of students in different streams. They wanted to change everyone’s thought by arguing and debating on their rights.

     Then, she told me about this incident that had happened to her class. Every year our school would hold an event called Canteen Day to raise fund for the school. Every class had to work on something such as selling food or drinks or making game stations and etc. to earn money for the school.  As usual, every class will fight for the spot to make game station as game station could earn the most and the class which earned the most would be awarded. So Shirley’s class wanted to make a maze and they applied for it. They wrote a good proposal about what they were going to do on this game. Of course, almost every class was applying to make game stations instead of selling food and drinks. So there were so many applications on game stations. However, the organizing chairperson, Ms. Lee, our school co-curriculum advisor would decide which classes will be selling food and drinks and planning game stations. And the final decision was the art stream classes were going to sell food and drinks while the science stream classes were be making game stations. Although art stream classes had a better idea of making game stations, science stream classes would get it no matter what happened. She was so upset about this arrangement. Her class representative tried to make complaints about it but no changes could be done. Art stream classes had to do whatever Ms. Lee had decided. It was really sad that the art stream always didn’t get what they wanted and being looked down by the science stream students and teachers too. After talking to her about this, I apologized to her for judging her before I knew her more and I changed my bad impression on students in art stream.

 I didn’t believe this until I was in high school until I saw this incident. One day, I was having my recess with my friends in the cafeteria after my History class. The cafeteria was crowded with students and it was really noisy there. Sometimes I barely heard my friends talking as the school radio was too loud and other students were talking and laughing as well. When I was enjoying my delicious bacon sandwich,  suddenly I heard someone screaming loudly.  It caught everybody’s attention in the cafeteria. I could see that everyone was looking at that direction and wondering what had happened.  All I could see was two girls from different streams were fighting. I was pretty sure they were fighting about seats in the cafeteria. They were arguing for a few minutes and couldn’t find any solution for it. Then, the girl who was in science stream started to beat the girl in art stream up. They pull each other’s hair, slapped each other’s faces. Soda and food were spreaded all over the place.  My friends and I were shocked and stunned there for a few seconds when we saw this. Within a minute time, some prefects ran towards them and stopped them from fighting. These two girls were brought to the principal’s office. Later I heard that the girl in art stream was punished badly. She had to do 20 hours of community service in school whereas the girl in science stream was just given a warning letter. I was so shocked and couldn’t believe with such action done by the principal. I thought both of them were deserved to be punished but not only one party. What a sad phenomena!

          In my opinion, I think that every student should be treated equally. I admitted that it was nice that I as a science student was given privileges but on the other hand, I felt sorry for the art students who receive such bad treatment from the school. Sometimes I would like to talk to teachers about it but they refused to listen to me. To me, students in the art stream are actually potential students too. It is so true that some of the students are troublemakers but I know that they don’t mean to cause trouble but sometimes life is difficult and they don’t know how to get attention and care from people who are surrounding them. Students in the art stream might not be good in studying like the students in the science stream did but they are really good in other fields such as sports, music, arts and etc. For example, Shirley was a captain in cheerleading team. For now, it is really hard to change these phenomena as it has been stacked in everybody’s mind since a long time ago. Anyway, I think students in the art streams are cool and I love being friends with them!

My advice to Ben was staying away from his group of friends even Virgil. Virgil was just a guy that know nothing but followed whatever the others did. Although he was the smartest in the group, he still made mistakes that couldn’t be forgiven like hitting Steve and not stopping the murder of Steve. He had actually made the biggest mistake in his life by mixing around with this bunch of friends. His previous life was so much better and I am sure he would have better future if he continued being himself. Right now, he had no choice but to hide the secret of killing Steve for his rest of his life which I think it’s terrifying.  Sometimes when a mistake is done, it couldn’t be taken away or forgiven. So it is always better to think twice before you do something but not regretting after you have done it.

And the best part of the movie was everyone seemed to be so real and the setting was awesome. I had no idea how they do it but they did it perfectly. And I didn’t know about it until the end of the story. Anyway, it was a nice movie to watch although it was unrealistic.

My mum’s friend has a daughter named Jamie who is just 10. She always dressed up like a young adult. She always has her hair done beautifully and of course a cellphone on her palm and I always see her texting. I don’t understand why her parents give her a cellphone. Is it a necessity? She is just a 10 years old girl. She surfs the net everyday and has her own facebook too. When I was 10, I was just a naive kid who still play with my Barbie dolls and watch cartoon network. One day, I talked to her mum about her little daughter. Due to my curiousness, I asked bunch of questions and she told me that Jamie asked for all these such as her outfits, cellphones and etc. Jamie’s friends are all the same too. Besides, she picks her own clothes when she goes shopping with her mum and read magazines like seventeen. Being an only child at home, her mum gives whatever she wants. Her mum treats her like a young adult now. She is no longer a kid in people’s eyes. I am really shocked about this little girl who actually acts like a young adult and I am wondering what is going on with the kids now.

Overall, kids nowadays really grown up too fast. They act like adults which supposed not to. I think it is all caused by the technology and media that the kids interacting with. They learn and act like what they observed. Kids who grown up so fast like now aren’t a good symbol as more problems are created due to their actions.

I never consider myself as an adult although I am already 19 as I am still depending my parents. They still support for my education and my living expenses. I don’t think I am ready to start my own life without depending on my support from my family. Sometimes I am not mature enough to make my decision but my parents always allow me to do whatever that I think is right for me. Of course they would give me advice and support on the decisions that I made.

I am sure many adults don’t really know what an adult is. It is such an objective opinion. Everyone thinks about adult differently and there is no right and wrong in this sense. Therefore to be an adult, it is all depends on how the person react and what makes him or her an adult and age is definitely not a factor that make you an adult.

1. House should be thoroughly cleaned.

2. Never wear dark colors during Chinese New Year.

3. Don’t sweep the floor during Chinese New Year which would bring bad luck for the next coming year.

4.  You must eat Tang Yuan, dumplings made of sweet rice rolled into balls which represented united in a family.

5. Avoid conversations pertaining to unlucky “4″ and things related to death.

6. You must have your new outfits on and red is an ideal clothing color to wear.

7. You must say ‘Gong Xi Fa Cai’ which means wishing you to be prosperous in the coming year when someone gives you a “Angpau’, a red packet that contains money.

8. You must go back home to have a reunion dinner on Chinese New Year Eve.

9. Knives and scissors are hidden to avoid cutting of good fortune.

10. Eating of long, uncut noodles signify long life.

Love is a necessity to me and nothing could buy love. For me, I want to live in an environment that full of love. Family and friends are important to me and I want to be around with them everyday. They will stand by you no matter what has happened. Their support, care and love are something that I couldn’t buy or find in anywhere else. Without love, it seems like you are being alone and lonely all the time. So I would absolutely want to have my awesome family and cool friends with me all the time in order to have a perfect life.

Besides, health is invaluable to me. I couldn’t buy it  and I always know that having a healthy body allows you to complete your goals in life. I would rather have health than wealth. I am not saying that wealth is not important to me but health comes first.

Other than that,  I always hear this quote, money talks but not you. It is so true in reality. You could have and do a lot of things if you have money. Money has played an essential role in everybody’s life. It has such a power which causes everyone become so  desperate for it. So I want to be rich too as I know money solves most of the problems in life. I don’t want to be stressed out due to the  high debts and expensive bills. Therefore, having lots of money in my pocket makes me feel great and secured as I never have to worry about financial. I could own my dream house that I desired for a long time, go for vacation and etc. I could basically do what I want only if I have lots of money. 

However, I would like to achieve my goals in life even though I already have the all the above needs that I desired. I would still want to go to university and complete my degree, start my own career by having my own business such as a restaurant or a company, have a wonderful family with 2 kids, travel all over the world and so on. I would like to expand my business to the global and have my own product line. Fighting for my goals definitely makes my life more challenging and that’s the life that I want!

Due to this factor, these races don’t like about Malays when they made crazy decisions especially on  education. The government always change the education system nowadays just to protect the Malays. The Malays are poor in English so they have two version of test papers which is English and Malay version in the Mathematics and Science subjects. The government always protect the rights of the Malay and sometimes they neglect the rights of other races and this causes conflicts and arguments among the other races. Now the government even wanted to cancel the usage of English in Mathematics and Science subjects in all government schools. It is really hard for other races to start changing the use of the language in those subjects and start learning to use Malay in them. It is totally a huge change for all the students and I as a university student now couldn’t cope with it too.

One day, I met my primary school teacher and she brought up this issue. She told me that it would be hard for teachers to teach the students in a totally different language. These young kids will get confused if the language is changed and they need some time to adapt that. Besides, she told me that teachers have to attend courses provided by the government and this would cause the lack of teachers in school. Students won’t have classes for a week or more and spending money on providing courses to the  teachers are such a waste of time and money. Sometimes I don’t really understand the government well. I know they made a good decision at the beginning but they will try to change and modify it later when they see that the Malays can’t adapt with it. It is a decision by the government and we as the citizens especially Chinese don’t have any rights to say anything here. We just have to follow their decisions.

In conclusion, such social control towards the Chinese or Indians in Malaysia is so unfair but nothing much could be done to change this. Hopefully someday someone could change this phenomena which would equalise the whole nation in Malaysia.

 There are so many different types of curry in Malaysia. They are fish curry, chicken curry, mutton curry, beef curry and vegetable curry. These are food that cooked by the Indians or Malays. But sometimes, Chinese does too. Normally you could find it in everywhere in the town. You could eat them with rice, noodles and bread.  They are not very expensive and it is the nation favourites.

They are all curry but they tasted differently. The textures are so different if you cooked it when different types of meat or ingredients. They will taste totally different too. The color of the curry are different too. They could be reddish-brown, yellowish, green and etc.

For the Malays, they normally cook their curry brownish with chicken or beef and eat them with rice. For the Indians, they will have reddish hot and spicy mutton or fish curry with roti canai, a similiar kind of food like a pita. Next, for the Chinese, they love to have curry with noodles. So the same food called curry but different cooking methods are used to present this dish.
